Until now, buildings in Zagreb have held the height of prestige: from the recognizable 'rockets', through the Zagreb Cathedral to the Cibona Tower. Zagrebačanka is probably the most recognizable office building in Zagreb. It was opened in 1976 and was then the tallest and most modern. The woman from Zagreb was on the throne for 30 years, and then in 2006, the Eurotower outgrew her by a whole meter, and eight years later, the business center in Strojarska, which now holds the second place in Croatia behind the Dalmatia Tower.

Burj Khalifa as a role model

"You have a skyscraper with restaurants nearby, cafes, parking lots, and everything you need. Skyscrapers become landmarks in the area. We can see this best in Saudi Arabia or Dubai, where the Burj Khalifa is probably the most famous skyscraper in the world. People come there to take pictures," architect Mislav Bašić told RTL's Direkt.

The list of five tallest skyscrapers in the world is headed by Burj Khalifa with 828 meters. There are also skyscrapers in Malaysia, China, and Saudi Arabia that are about two hundred meters lower than the Burj Khalifa. In Zagreb, between Strojarska Street and the bus station, two skyscrapers are supposed to rise, supposedly the tallest in Zagreb, one with 25, the other with 15 floors.

Project approved by Milan Bandić

There is no work yet, the investor is unknown, but according to announcements, they should be bigger than the Strojarska Business Center, which is 96 meters high.

Milan Bandić permitted that project in 2016.

"If our constructors had such investors and if someone was able to finance it, surely there would be enough quality designers who could realize a project like the Burj Khalifa. But that is not realistic for now," designer Mario Todorović tells RTL.
